The rate of young adults buying homes in the city and its environs has increased by slightly over 5% over the past 10 years highlighting a penchant for millennials to settle in the area. Given that it is a big city (the 9th biggest in the state) with good facilities, Bakersfield offers good value for money. Elk Grove, California With an average millennial homeownership rate of 60%, Elk Grove, California has one of the highest millennial homeownership percentages in the country. Homes in the area are affordable with a median value of $350,300. For perspective, the median income is $79,051. As the 19th biggest city in the country, millennials find St Louis appealing since it strikes a balance between offering the city life without insurmountable costs. The beautiful and picturesque nature of the city, overlooking the Mississippi river, also helps. Cary, North Carolina Cary offers not only affordable housing but also a community based, laid back lifestyle that a certain demographic of millennials is attracted to. Moreover, it has one of the highest safety ratings in the country, and its economy has been on an upturn for the last several years. The millennial homeownership rate in Cary is 35.5%. Denver, Colorado The biggest and most populous city in Colorado is a popular homeownership location for millennials. Given the typical city life of Denver, house prices are a bit higher with the median home value being $550,000. Denver has enjoyed continual economic growth hence offering a higher average income which partly explains the ability of millennials to own homes. The city also enjoys accolades which have painted it in excellent light such as the U.S News & World Report’s best place to live in the U.S.A. Fort Wayne, Indiana Fort Wayne is only rivaled by Indianapolis in terms of size, and the inexpensiveness of homes in the area has attracted millennials. The median home value is $105,900 which has inspired a millennial homeownership rate of on average 36%. With high safety ratings, a quickly growing economy and many facility alternatives to cater for different types of aspiring home owners, Fort Wayne’s appeal to millennials is justified. Salt Lake City, Utah Salt Lake City, commonly abbreviated as SLC, is Utah’s biggest city with a population of slightly over 200,000 people. The larger SLC area has a population of slightly over 1.1 million. Like many cities, millennials have the option of either an urban or suburban lifestyle with an ensuing significant home price difference. The median home value is on the higher side at $529,500. A booming economy and abundant opportunities are SLC’s bait to millennials. Omaha, Nebraska Omaha has the highest millennial homeownership rate among big cities at 29.5%. This is driven by the city’s rapidly growing and highly diverse economy. Four fortune 500 companies are based in the city including Berkshire Hathaway and Mutual of Omaha. Omaha was Highlighted by Forbes as the ‘Best-Bang-For-Buck City.’ Chattanooga, Tennessee The millennial homeownership rate in Chattanooga has been slowly increasing from way back in 2006. At 30%, it is on the higher side. Being a transit city, Chattanooga is well connected with a growing economy and affordable housing. It also boasts of scenic surroundings and a big interest in outdoor sports and activities. Anchorage, Alaska The median home value in Anchorage is $302,000 which is a bit high, but millennials have not shied away from buying homes in the region as the millennial homeownership rate has increased by 0.5%. Located on the shoreline, the city is picturesque and a big FedEx hub courtesy of its centralized position in relation to 90% of the Globe’s industrialized locations. For this reason, the city is also a major refueling spot for planes. Without a doubt, millennials greatest concern and constraining factor to homeownership is pricing with the high cost locking many out. On a countrywide scale, homeownership rates among millennials has been falling which singles out the above locations as exceptions to the norm.
